C3 in Cheltenham

We are a group of ordinary people from all walks of life joined together by a common belief in God, and in Jesus Christ.

Once a week, on Sundays, we meet together to worship, listen to God’s word, the Bible, and share friendship together. During the week we meet in smaller groups for fellowship, social events, keep fit, football, youth club, community action or whatever works.

We love the church, we love vibrant worship, great teaching, good friends, strong families and the communities we live in.

We seek to be honest about our humanity, care about the things that matter to people and provide a place where we can connect with God and one another.

We are committed to helping people live their best life and so you’ll find courses and events run through the year to support people in their different circumstances, whether it is in spiritual growth, money management, marriage courses, emotional healing, or parenting, to name  a few!

We believe that faith in God is relevant to all of life, and that Christ came to give us life in all its fullness. Our message is one of faith, hope and love; founded on truths that are timeless and ageless, and as needed today as ever they were.

C3 Cheltenham is a member of the UK Evangelical Alliance and affiliated to the global church organisation called Christian City Church International.

We believe:

  • There is one God: Father, Son and Holy Spirit
  • In the deity of our Lord Jesus Christ the Son of God; we believe in His virgin birth, in His sinless life, in His miracles, in His vicarious and atoning death, in His bodily resurrection, in His ascension to the right hand of the Father, His constant intercession and in His imminent return;
  • In the person and work of the Holy Spirit with his fruits and gifts available in the Church;
  • The Bible is the living word of God—infallible, authoritative and everlasting, and the foundation of all Christian doctrine;
  • In the existence of an evil spiritual being—the devil;
  • In the spiritually lost condition of all people and the essential need for the ‘new birth’ by faith in Jesus Christ;
  • In the baptism of the Holy Spirit as a gift available to all believers;
  • In the sacraments of the Lord’s Supper and baptism by full immersion in water for all believers;
  • In the resurrection of both the saved and the lost, the one to everlasting life and the other to everlasting separation from God;
  • In the church being the body of Christ, and each member being an active part of a local church, fulfilling the great commission

Going Without

On Monday 20th February we will begin a church fast, along with brothers and sisters from around the world, for 21 days. No doubt we will all be fasting in different ways and for different lengths of time. What matters is that we will be doing this together, in unity, to seek God for his church and for the advancement of his kingdom in the earth. It's a strange thing to do in our culture, to go without when you don't have to, but history tells us that God sees and hears his people when they humble themselves and seek him this way. And so we will do what countless others before us have done.

Here's what some of them had to say on the subject:

Fasting is not an end in itself; it is a means by which we can worship the Lord and submit ourselves in humility to Him. We don't make God love us any more than He already does if we fast, or if we fast longer. Fasting invites God into the problem. Then in the strength of God, victory is possible.
- Elmer L. Towns

Fasting reminds us that we are sustained by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God (Matt. 4:4). Food does not sustain us; God sustains us.
- Richard Foster

Fasting is important, more important perhaps, than many of us have supposed,... when exercised with a pure heart and a right motive, fasting may provide us with a key to unlock doors where other keys have failed; a window opening up new horizons in the unseen world; a spiritual weapon of God's provision, mighty, to the pulling down of strongholds.
- Arthur Wallis

Fasting, if we conceive of it truly, must not... be confined to the question of food and drink; fasting should really be made to include abstinence from anything which is legitimate in and of itself for the sake of some special spiritual purpose. There are many bodily functions which are right and normal and perfectly legitimate, but which for special peculiar reasons in certain circumstances should be controlled. That is fasting.
Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Prayer is reaching out after the unseen; fasting is letting go of all that is seen and temporal. Fasting helps express, deepen, confirm the resolution that we are ready to sacrifice anything, even ourselves to attain what we seek for the kingdom of God.
- Andrew Murray

Do you have a hunger for God? If we don't feel strong desires for the manifestation of the glory of God, it is not because we have drunk deeply and are satisfied. It is because we have nibbled so long at the table of the world. Our soul is stuffed with small things, and there is no room for the great. If we are full of what the world offers, then perhaps a fast might express, or even increase, our soul's appetite for God. Between the dangers of self-denial and self-indulgence is the path of pleasant pain called fasting.
- John Piper

However you get involved in this, lets do it together with a sincere heart towards God, with prayer and confidence that he hears us when we call on his name.

Happy Fasting!
